Nutritious Functional Ingredient
Highland Barley Glucan
DEFINITION
Highland barley glucan is a soluble fiber derived from the highland barley endosperm cell wall. It is a natural polymer comprised of individual glucose molecules that a re linked together by a series of (1 3) and (1 4) linkages. This unique array of linking makes it with several consumer health benefits, as follows, preventing coronary heart disease by significantly lowering LDL(Lower Density Lipoprotein) blood cholesterol and increasing HDL(High Density Lipoprotein) cholesterol levels, promoting healing of wounds, stimulating immune cell function, protecting and moisturizing the skin.
Chemical structure of glucan from highland barley is composed of (1 4)-linked glucose units separated every two to three units by a single (1 3)-linked glucose.
